The Kwathu Upgrade Project, with funding from Music in Africa Foundation and partners (the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung, and Goeth Institut), through the Music in Africa Live project, and the Ntha Foundation through the Kwathu Creative & Innovation Centre, officially closed on the 4th of December 2021 with a live showcase event that took place at Mingle Complex in Lilongwe.
The Kwathu Upgrade program saw the 10 participants attend a 5 day-long workshop that included different lessons from facilitators in different sectors of the music industry.
Within the component of the Kwathu Upgrade, the participants also had to work together in collaboration to create a song that represented them individually and as Malawian artists collectively.
The showcase saw the 10 Participants that were chosen for the Kwathu Upgrade showcase their talents through sound production, music production, sound engineering, singing, and rapping.
The event was live broadcast on Facebook and graced by live performances from the talents of Tiya Joan, Joe Kellz, Mirriam Nkosi, Yang Chitika, and rapper Episodz.
GrisVer and Cap10 showcased their talents by DJ/Sound Engineering at the event.
Thandeka hosted the event.
Natty and Joseph helped with behind-the-scenes development for the smooth run of the event.
The showcase was closed by a group performance of the song written and produced by the participants.
